Hearing Aid Tubing

4 Tubing Types for Every BTE Configuration

From standard PVC acoustic tubes to slim silicone thin tubes — the right hearing aid tube ensures clear sound transmission, flexibility, and all-day wearing comfort.

Standard PVC Acoustic Tubing

The classic hearing aid tube for traditional BTE hearing aids. Medical-grade PVC with smooth inner walls for optimal sound transmission. Available in multiple diameters — #13 standard (most common), #13 thick-wall, and #9 thin for slim BTEs. Replace every 4–6 months as the acoustic tube naturally hardens over time.

#13 Standard (1.9mm ID) #13 Thick-wall #9 Slim Medical PVC

Slim / Thin Tubes

Lightweight thin tube hearing aid tubing for open-fit BTE and RIC/RITE receivers. Nearly invisible when worn — the preferred choice for cosmetic discretion. Slim tubes are pre-formed with the correct curvature for behind-the-ear routing and connect directly to the receiver via a snap-fit connector. Replace every 3–4 months.

Pre-curved Open-fit BTE RIC/RITE compatible Silicone

Double-Wall Acoustic Tubes

Premium hearing aid acoustic tubing with a dual-layer construction — the outer layer resists kinking, moisture, and UV damage; the smooth inner layer maintains acoustic integrity. Double-wall tubes last longer and perform better in humid climates or for users with high cerumen production. Commonly specified for pediatric and power BTE fittings.

Hearing Aid Earhooks

Precision Earhooks — Adult, Pediatric & Damped

The hearing aid earhook connects the BTE housing to the tubing — its shape directly affects comfort, retention, and acoustic output. Choose the right ear hook for every patient.

Adult Standard Earhooks

Full-size hearing aid earhook with standard curvature for adult ears. Compatible with Phonak, Oticon, ReSound, Signia, Starkey, and Widex BTE models. Available in damped (7dB or 9dB filtering for feedback control) and undamped (full acoustic pass-through) versions. Manufactured from durable medical-grade plastic.

Pediatric / Child Earhooks

Smaller child hearing aid earhook with a tighter curvature designed for children's smaller ear anatomy. Also suitable for adults with very small ears or low-set ears. Available in plastic (standard) and metal (reinforced) versions — metal pediatric earhooks are ideal for active children and durability-critical fittings. Multiple colors available for kid-friendly personalization.

Damped Earhooks (Acoustic Filter)

Damped hearing aid earhooks include an integrated acoustic resistor that smooths the frequency response — particularly useful for managing high-frequency feedback and refining tonal balance in power BTE fittings. Available in 7dB, 9dB, and 12dB damping values for both adult and pediatric sizes. A critical component for optimizing the hearing aid's prescribed gain curve.

Material, Sizing & Replacement Guide

Quick reference for hearing aid tubing and earhook specifications, materials, and replacement intervals.

Materials

Tubing: Medical-grade PVC (plasticized) or silicone. Earhooks: Medical-grade ABS/PP plastic or anodized metal (pediatric reinforced). All materials latex-free, biocompatible, and ROHS compliant.

Tubing Diameters

#13 Standard: 1.9mm ID / 3.0mm OD — most BTE models.
#13 Thick-wall: 1.9mm ID / 3.4mm OD — kink-resistant.
#9 Slim: 1.2mm ID / 2.2mm OD — thin-tube BTEs.

Replacement Interval

Tubing: Every 4–6 months (PVC hardens, yellows). Thin tubes: Every 3–4 months. Earhooks: Replace when discolored, cracked, split, or if acoustic damping performance degrades. Daily wipe with a dry cloth recommended for all components.

FAQ

Common Questions About Hearing Aid Tubings & Earhooks

How often should hearing aid tubing be replaced?

Audiologists recommend replacing hearing aid tubing every 4–6 months. PVC acoustic tubes naturally harden, yellow, and lose flexibility over time — hardened tubing can crack, pull the hearing aid off the ear, or degrade sound quality. Slim/thin tubes for RIC/RITE receivers should be replaced every 3–4 months. If you notice the tube feels stiff, looks cloudy/yellow, or the hearing aid sounds muffled, it's time for a tube replacement.

What's the difference between standard tubing and thin/slim tubing?

Standard PVC tubing (#13) is thicker — used on traditional BTE hearing aids where the tube connects the earhook to a custom earmold. Thin/slim tubes are narrower and pre-curved — used on open-fit BTE and RIC/RITE hearing aids where the tube connects directly to a soft dome in the ear canal. Thin tubes are more discreet but have a shorter lifespan. The two are not interchangeable — tube type is determined by your hearing aid model.

What is a damped earhook and when is it needed?

A damped earhook contains an integrated acoustic resistor (filter) that reduces specific frequency peaks — typically in the 1–3 kHz range — to smooth the hearing aid's frequency response and control feedback. Damping values of 7dB, 9dB, or 12dB are prescribed by the audiologist based on the patient's hearing loss and the hearing aid's gain settings. Damped earhooks are most commonly used in power BTE fittings for severe-to-profound hearing loss. An undamped earhook provides no acoustic filtering — full sound pass-through.

Are earhooks interchangeable between hearing aid brands?

No — hearing aid earhooks are brand-specific and must match the BTE housing's attachment point. Phonak, Oticon, ReSound, Signia, Starkey, and Widex each use different mounting geometries and pin configurations. However, within a parent company (e.g., Oticon/Bernafon/Philips, all owned by Demant), earhooks may be physically interchangeable — always verify with the product code. Using the wrong earhook can result in a loose fit, acoustic leakage, or damage to the hearing aid's hook interface.

Pediatric vs. adult earhooks — what's the difference?

Pediatric earhooks have a tighter, smaller-radius curvature to fit the shorter distance behind a child's ear. They're also available in metal (ReSound, Phonak) for extra durability given children's active lifestyles. Adult standard earhooks have a more open, larger-radius curve. Pediatric ear hooks can also be used for adults with very small or low-set ears. Color options (pink, blue, green, yellow) are most common in the pediatric range for kid-friendly appeal.

Can I order tubing or earhooks with custom branding?

Yes. We offer OEM hearing aid tubing and private-label earhooks — custom colors, custom packaging (blister cards, clinic dispenser boxes, bulk bags), and your brand logo printed directly on the product. Whether you're a hearing aid brand, audiology clinic chain, or e-commerce accessories seller, we provide end-to-end custom manufacturing from tooling to finished packaged product.
